Why do children benefit from visiting summer camps?

Summer camp is something that a lot of kids do. While it is not as common as it used to be to send a child to camp there are still plenty of kids who go. Mostly they go to have fun and there are few more enjoyable ways to spend the summer. However there are quite a few benefits for the child when they go to summer camp. They will learn a lot of things that will be useful for the rest of their lives.

The main benefit of summer camp is that it allows children to do things that they wouldn't be otherwise be able to do. This would include activities like horseback riding, canoeing and many others. Being able to do these things not only allows the kids to gain new experiences but it also builds self esteem as they successful do new things. This helps to improve their competence and teaches them that they can do the things that they set out to try.

The other big thing that kids get out of summer camp is the opportunity to build character. A lot of the things that are done at camp will require some serious effort to learn how to do. Making the effort and seeing it pay off when they are successful at something is a great character builder. It teaches children that they can do anything that they want to if they are willing to put in the effort.

Summer camp also allows children the chance to interact with other kids in a way that is very different from the way that they do at school. New friendships will be formed while they are there. Because of the way that camps are organized the kids will also get the chance to learn things like leadership which will come in handy later in life.

A major benefit of summer camp these days is that it provides the kids with lots of exercise. In a world where child obesity is a serious problem and few kids are getting enough exercise summer camp can be the ideal solution to the problem. While they are at camp there is no television or video games to keep them occupied. Instead they will be spending their time taking part in a wide variety of activities, most of which will provide them with plenty of exercise.

For the children perhaps the biggest benefit of camp is that it is a lot of fun. Certainly there are valuable lessons to be learned but above all the goal is for the kids to have fun. Most children who go to camp will have a great time and they will build memories that will last them the rest of their lives. In the end this is a much better way to spend the summer than sitting at home and watching television.
